Built around change, not permanence
Frontier Economics had originally planned to relocate from MidCity Place, but the pandemic shifted priorities. Instead of moving, they chose to redesign their existing office as a pilot — a way to understand how their people would respond to hybrid working and what an agile future could look like.
Working closely with Sam Kopsch Studio and Oktra, we helped Frontier rethink their space with minimal build work. With relocation still a possibility, investment was focused on furniture rather than construction, ensuring flexibility, mobility and long term value.
This early collaboration created a foundation for a workspace built on insight, not assumptions.
Designed to give people choice
Design workshops were held with the entire company to understand how teams worked, collaborated and moved through the day. The result was a scheme built around variety — a shift from desk ownership to a bookable workspace model where people choose the setting that suits their task.
Rather than build new meeting rooms, we introduced acoustic office pods equipped with high tech AV, reducing mechanical costs and future dilapidations. The kitchen and breakout space became the social heart of the office, with furniture selected to support everything from company events to quiet solo work.

Made to adapt and inform
Fluid managed the full furniture consultancy, procurement and installation, coordinating closely with Frontier and the wider project team. Smart lockers were introduced to support the new agile model, providing daily storage while generating valuable utilisation data for future real estate planning.
The project was delivered during global material shortages, requiring careful coordination and agile decision making as specifications shifted.
Despite the challenges, the result is a workspace that has been exceptionally well received — a flexible, insight rich environment that supports collaboration, focus and organisational learning.
This pilot now serves as a platform for Frontier’s long term workplace strategy, proving the power of a furniture led, adaptable approach.
